Are you someone who enjoys traveling and exploring different types of cultures? If so, you should totally check out this trip that is being hosted in February by the EF (Education First) tour company and guided by psychology teacher and dean Ms. Savino. This trip will only be accompanied by students and chaperones from John Dewey, and if your parents also want to be on board with this trip, then they will have to speak with Ms. Savino further about the details. This trip will be traveling through Italy to Rome. This trip spans a duration of 10–13 days, and every day there will be arrangements for guided tours around historical places where we will be able to be educated about new cultures. The overall price is approximately $4,000, which covers expenses such as accommodations, meals, and admission to specific places.
The trip covers 7-9 cities in Italy and Greece, including Athens, Delphi, the Meteora region, Igoumenitsa, Ancona, Florence, Rome, an extension to Madrid, and Toledo. The deadline is negotiable with Ms. Savino, and she will tell you further details about upcoming meetings and payment methods.
Many students wonder if we are allowed to wander by ourselves. Ms. Savino said in response, “For students who are wondering if you are allowed to wander around by yourself or with friends, Yes, you are given free time, which is almost every day during lunch or afternoons, but you will need a chaperone to accompany you. And the chaperone would honestly go anywhere the kids wanted.”
This trip was said to have been announced last year, and some people were wondering who was behind the planning and who really made this trip happen. Former chaperone and ELA teacher Mr. Carbonaro said, “This trip was planned by the program itself, and I was to guide the students who were going on the trip. We gave the students who were interested early notice because four thousand dollars is a lot, and they are giving the students the time to earn more money”.
For students or any parents who are concerned about safety matters, Mr.Carbonaro assures you that “it is completely safe as Italy has its own safety guidelines and there will be tour guides. Also, we make sure students have their medication and allergies and their contact information in hand at all times”. Have any of you wondered how students who are going on this trip manage to get all this money? Junior Greg Tsenter, one of the students that is participating in this trip, commented, “I think that it’s a pretty affordable trip; it’s much cheaper than going by yourself. And also, I did work over the summer as a lifeguard, and with the money I saved, I was able to pay for the trip myself.”
Tsenter also expressed that “I’m going myself because I want to explore and meet new people. No one that I know of is going on this trip, and my parents don’t really have the time to go on this trip.” Despite Tsenter’s parents’ support, they are unable to accompany Tsenter on this amazing trip due to time constraints. However, this won’t stop him from going! He is still excited to go even though he doesn’t know anyone who is going on this trip because he is more focused on learning new cultures and making connections. He’s doing this to enjoy his winter vacation, and it also looks good on college resumes.
