On Oct 30, 2023 Junior and Senior students from John Dewey High School were invited to tour St. Francis College. St. Francis college is a private college located in Brooklyn, New York. Students from not only New York but also other states and countries attend this school. St. Francis College offers many programs for students but they especially focus on Pre-Med Programs.
College advisor Mrs. Linda Mazzola spoke about the benefits that St. Francis has to offer, saying “St. Francis is known for their big medical program” and continued, saying “they offer many hands-on activities.”
Speaking about the economic benefit of attending St. Francis, Mrs. Mazzola said, ¨Many Dewey students have applied to St. Francis in the past because it is nearby and also very affordable.¨
Discussing logistical challenges in executing this trip, Mrs. Mazzola said “Since the trip was only offered for the Pre-Med academy kids, less people from Pre-Med actually signed up for the trip. It was more of a disappointment.”
Upon entering the building many students were in awe of the interior design. The building had a modern style to it and it caught the viewers eyes.
Senior Ruhshona Asadova seemed to be impressed with the college, saying “ The interior design of this school caught my attention immediately. The school has a clean environment and modern design.” Many students find having a modern and clean environment as a convenience when choosing their future school.
Speaking about the programs that were of interest to her, Asadova stated “Nursing, because the program has high tech resources for the students’ needs”.
Asadova is seriously considering attending pending her acceptance, “Because it is an environment that aligns with my beliefs and caters to people like me.”
Even though the school is Catholic many other beliefs were represented by the students. Students who attended the trip reported that the campus was very diverse and a safe environment for all students. This in addition is ideal for students when choosing a school.
Junior Maram Mohamed was impressed with the school’s design and amenities, saying “The design of the school and the rooms that the students take classes in caught my attention.” Classrooms had ceiling to floor windows that were soundproof. Allowing students to completely focus on their lesson and not get distracted by other lessons that may be going on.
Mohamed is also interested in the nursing program , “When I visited other colleges I didn’t see the same equipment and materials that they have in the school.” The school had high tech dummies that gave birth and had heart aches. This gives students the real life experience of being in a hospital.
Mohamed is a junior and still thinking about her college decisions, “I’m not really sure if I will choose St. Francis College as my future school because I haven’t decided what major I want to take but if the major that I’m going to take is available in the school I will apply.”
Overall the trip was very beneficial for the students and they look forward to attending more trips to other colleges.
