It’s important as a senior to have an idea of what career you want to pursue. In order to get a pulse on where this year’s graduating class is regarding their plans post graduation, Dewey seniors shared their latest plans.
Senior Anzhela Gasparyan was forthcoming discussing her interest in a nursing career, saying “I definitely want to do something with nursing because I feel like once I get my degree in that it’s going to be easier to delegate specifically what field I want to be in” and continued that “I knew that I always wanted to be something in the medical field and since my mom has a degree in midwifery OB, I wanted to continue that for her.”
When discussing options to consider for university, Gasparyan said “My first choice is definitely Hunter College because it’s a CUNY and they have a lot of opportunities and majors. There’s a wide selection in that school and I definitely want to go.”
Many Dewey seniors like Gasparyan establish their academic plan for the next four years early in the school year- in fact, many try to finalize those plans heading into winter break. Many seniors, like Gasparyan, already have a college in mind and aspire to go that school- otherwise known as a ‘dream’ school.
Senior Ericka Guillaume wants to “pursue forensic psychology”, and attend “[CUNY] John Jay, which is a criminology school”.
It is encouraging to see how decisive our current seniors are when it comes to important decisions about their future.
Many of our current seniors have defined career tracks in mind as well. Senior Zaida Whitfield said she “want to become a pediatric surgeon.” Whitfield had a much different approach than the other 2 previous interviewees about colleges and continued that “I know Baruch, LIU, City College, and NYU are really competitive to get into. But those all have the courses that I need to pursue a medical degree. My main focus right now is probably Baruch because I’m eligible and they have the whole four years of all of the courses I need.”
It’s promising to see that Dewey seniors like Whitfield has expanded her choices of colleges. It’s always in a student’s best interest to have multiple options when it comes important decisions regarding their academic and vocational futures.
