John Dewey High School is welcoming back their annual Senior Scare Room. On Thursday October 31st 2024, Ms. Alteon is hosting her Halloween party event which is known as the Senior Scare Room and it’s at a reasonable price of only $5. With the $5 you’re able to gain an assortment of things such as catered food and beverages. You’re even able to play a variety of games, gain party bags and of course you can’t have a party without any music. It’s also pretty good because Halloween falls on a Thursday which means the following day there’s no school due to a religious holiday known as Diwali. That’s why it’s great that many students come together dressed up as their favorite characters and attend one of the best well known events from the School.
While I have not taken part in the event before, I’ve been anticipating and very excited to finally take part in the event. Throughout the years I have heard many positive comments from not only previous seniors but also from teachers as well. The school has also been doing a great job on promoting the event. Especially throughout the school with a variety of different posters and with the yearbook committee also promoting the event through their newly made instagram account for the graduates of 2025.
On October 31st, the day has finally arrived where the Senior Scare Room has returned back. With many students lined up outside room 226, dressed up in their creative costumes waiting for what’s to come inside. But before actually entering the room, students had to make sure that they RSVP and paid their $5 in order to actually attend the event.
“The experience was nice, if you had friends with you but if you didn’t I don’t think you would’ve enjoyed it as much. Said Eve Smith, a current Senior “The scenery was really great, I think it captured the Halloween vibe perfectly. I’d say the five dollars was worth it, at least for me personally.”
Smith Continued by saying that, “The most exciting thing about the event would most definitely be the food. There was a large variety of food and they had Halal options which was great.”
There were many students from not only YBC but also from Ms. Chan and Mr. Yung’s Culinary club that also helped serve the foods to others, such as a variety of rice, lasagnas, meats, etc.
Many students were casually hanging out with one another and were dance and sing with each other. There was a great variety of music that was super upbeat and entertaining.
However, of course the Senior Scare Room wouldn’t be perfect without its flaws.
“One of the biggest challenges was participation, it was difficult trying to promote the event because promoting a paid event nowadays not many people want to come due to inflation” said Ms. Alteon. “Getting food for everyone was another challenge, I had a student that was vegan so trying to get food for everyone was difficult since so many food places are far away from the school and there’s so little options for vegan and halal”.
Despite all the challenges that were faced, Ms. Alteon will continue to strive and create a variety of entertaining events for not only students but also staff members.
