This past Halloween, John Dewey High School brought senior students to attend the Fright Fest to create unforgettable memories of the spooky season alongside their peers.
Following Halloween activities such as the Senior scare room, the Fright Fest at Six Flags is an annual trip open to seniors on October 25, 2024. Students attending this trip will participate in thrilling activities such as haunted houses, scare zones, being chased, and rollercoasters. An event like this attracts many students who love the excitement of being frightened and screaming with their friends.
“Some exciting things I’m looking forward to is me and my friends screaming and getting some new trauma,” senior Audilia St. Louis expressed. “But also I’m excited to make a memory as it’s my last year here and who knows when I will see my friends and peers again before we have to go on our own paths.”
Senior year is the last year of high school where students try to attend as many events as possible to make their high school experience memorable.
“I think it’s a good opportunity because almost everyone is going so you can just form a little group and then go on rides,” senior Raniyah McLean said. “An amusement park is the easiest way to get to know people.”
Taking advantage of school events like the Fright Fest is an exceptional experience for bonding with Dewey’s peers and friends. However, questions may arise about prices, and this year, 2024, the Fright Fest trip was $170.
“The price is reasonable because if you do buy it yourself it’s gonna be more expensive,” senior Mickey Ye emphasized. “It’s actually cheaper to pay for the school trip one. They even offer all the 8 haunted houses which is a pretty good deal.”
Trip coordinators, like senior adviser Ms. Escalera, are responsible for organizing trips for John Dewey students and giving them the best experience. Hosting events like this takes into consideration of students exploring new adventures and price breakdowns.
“A lot of the seniors haven’t been to an event like that so for a lot of people it’s their first time there going to haunted houses,” senior adviser Ms. Escalera conveyed. “It’s one of the few times that they will be able to have an experience without the constant supervision.
“There’s 4 parts to ticket, there’s the actual ticket cost, coach bus, food voucher, and haunted houses,” senior adviser Ms. Escalera added. “Last year when we went without the haunted houses it was $140. But people want the house extension and that’s an additional $60.”
Senior adviser Ms. Escalera concludes that the cost of the Fright Fest trip being $170 is very cost-effective and covers transportation, haunted houses, theme park, and food.
