At John Dewey High School, hidden gems and invaluable assets often go unnoticed as we navigate through the daily hustle of our halls. However, Ms.Bri, our dedicated school aide, shines brightly debunking this movement with her remarkable contributions.
Ms. Bri, 25, is one of our hardworking school aids at JDHS. She can often be found by the first floor girls’ bathroom, keeping an eye on who goes in and out of the lavatory. Before joining Dewey, she used to work at Ashley Stewart, a clothing store that markets fashion for plus sized women.
She started working here around October 2023 of last year when her aunt, who is stationed at the cafeteria, offered her a job for the experience. By consistently supervising the bathroom, she maintains a safe environment.
However, her contributions don’t stop there. Beyond her regular duties, she goes above and beyond to ensure the well being of the students.
“I know I can come to her about anything.” said sophomore Navaiya Blanding. “About family, or friend drama, or anything that’s bothering me. She makes me feel secure- almost like a school mom.”
Even after working here for only a year, she has made her mark and has created a safe and confidential space for both herself, and her students, who she refers to as her angels.
“She’s stern, and gives me advice with my studies,” said sophomore Hamsa Abou Aziz.
With that being said, Ms Bri is always available to lend a listening ear, allowing students to vent out their frustrations, and share their concerns.
She dedicates herself to the students emotional well- being by asking thoughtful advice and giving reassurance. To her, both God and the strong women in her life sculpted her to be someone who is strong, patient, and a leader. She often mentioned during our interview of wanting to embody the same qualities she admires in her faith, making her a truly compassionate and resilient figure for those around her.
Looking ahead, Ms Bri knows her future career won’t solely rely on her current one. Her interests span a variety of fields, from voice acting in both female and male roles to providing loving care for the elderly, which she finds deeply fulfilling. She’s also considered becoming a dentist.
Having the opportunity to interview her made me realize the awareness and recognition that we need to give to those around us and to not be afraid of knowing that it is possible to dream big and aim for diverse goals.
