From clubs to clubs John Dewey High School is filled with various clubs to choose from and join. From book club, chess, guitar, journalism etc. – there are many clubs that are yet to be established. In order for a club to run or be established there has to be a minimum of 10 students who organize and seek a faculty advisor to sponsor.
Why are joining clubs important? Not only does it help you socialize with other students but it also helps you develop opportunities and skills as well as boosts your college application and shows that you are a dedicated and passionate student. The return of Key Club may open opportunities for students as well as a way to have fun and socialize with others.
Key Club is run by Mr.Brito in Room 304 every Tuesday from 3-4 pm. This is Key Club’s first year back in several years, and Mr.Brito’s first year running it as well.
What activities does the key club do?
Key Club does debates, trips, movie days as well as many other fun activities to get to know each other.
What established and made Key Club happen?
Key Club has been a club for years that has slowly died down, but Mr.Brito was suggested to lead this club, because he had characteristics that would work really well for this club, such as leadership and kindness. Since that recommendation, Key Club has reopened this year with motives to spread awareness and gain recognition through many people.
When do they meet?
Key Club meets every Tuesday in room 304 from 3pm – 4pm.
What are the goals of Key Club?
The goals are for members to gain community service hours and to provide help whenever called upon. They want to merge with the school being built near JDHS to make this club as big as possible and bring awareness towards the club.
What are the ideas for this club?
Some ideas for this club is to branch out to other schools as they are building the club and make it as big as possible.
Why is it called Key Club?
- It’s called Key Club because when you think of a Key, you think of something that opens many doors. When you see humans, take it as that you can be someone’s key to help open other doors to many other possibilities and advantages.
Although the club is newly reinstated, current members were quick to point out their positives experience thus far. Senior Brandon Rivera said “Key Club has many benefits, it follows you for life. Key Club is very fun and the teacher, Mr.Brito, provides a very welcoming and interactive experience.”
