The air conditioners have been a lasting problem in John Dewey as some are too loud or just don’t work. This can disrupt the class as students will be distracted by these factors.
Some students are so close to the air conditioners depending on their seating that they can’t hear the class discussions. This could ruin their participation grade as they can’t actively engage in the class. The kids that are affected the most are usually the ones right after gym class or during gym class. From the exhaustion of doing their exercise they can be easily distracted if they continue to stay in a hot environment.
Some rooms, however, have perfect air conditioning to where they aren’t too loud and set the room to the perfect temperature. This can help the students as they can focus on their work instead of complaining about the sound or the heat.
“They definitely do, some are too loud depending on where you sit. If they are loud they don’t help me concentrate.” said Jun Zheng, a senior in John Dewey.
The air conditioners however will be improved upon in the future. Even though there is no specific budget it is a current problem that is being recognized and is in one of the top five priorities to fix in the school, according to AP of Finances Jon Messinger. This shows this has been recognized for a while, and that school administrators are paying attention to the school’s condition. Just having the idea of trying to fix the air conditioners show how much they care about the students working environment.
“There is always a list of things we want to purchase or upgrade in this building and air conditionings is on that list its in the top five.” said Mr. Messenger, the schools financial manager. “But we have not reached a solidified plan of what we’re going to do and if we do do it will be during the winter.”
We can expect for the air conditioners to be in a better condition in time for the hotter seasons. This is a major development as it shows this issue will be fixed in the near future and will positively impact students. The air conditioners can now help even more students if they are exhausted from the heat.
This is a great development for the school as it will improve the classroom environment and students’ focus on their lessons.
