Clubs are more important than we think they are, they are necessary in the life of students.
Clubs are essential for building new skills, developing confidence and offering a way of expressing themselves through a variety of clubs that are being offered inside their schools. With so many options available, it can be challenging for students to decide which club they want to join, as they each offer unique opportunities that capture their interest.
The skateboard club has a lot to offer to students of JDHS.
More than just a place to practice tricks, our skateboard club has become a close-knit community where riders of all skill levels come together to push their limits, learn from each other, and build lasting friendships on four wheels.
Students gather in the front yard of John Dewey High School every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. for the Skateboarding club, a space where beginners and experienced skaters alike can improve their skills.
Under the guidance of Mr. Moody, the club’s advisor, participants are encouraged to push past their fear of falling.
To ensure safety, Mr. Moody provides them with protective gear, including helmets and pads, to minimize the risk of injury while building their confidence on the board. “We have helmets that are mandatory and wrist guards [which are optional], but highly encouraged for new members. We also take a gradual approach with learning. We never rush a new member to try something new before they’ve mastered the prerequisites.” said Mr. Moody.
The club offers a safe, supportive space where students can build skills and push their limits, learning at a pace that’s comfortable for each of them.
Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, the skateboarding club welcomes everyone ready to learn, grow, and make new friends on the board.
