In the past few years, we have seen a growing number of video makers try and get with the flow of our latest generation, but none of them had really hit this goal unlike the up and coming Canadian duo, Slushy Noobz.
The channel consists of just two guys behind the camera, Hamzah and Martin—who have garnered over half a million subscribers on Youtube in a year and a half. An audience that ranges from teens to adults, the duo’s quirky and bold humor managed to bring a community together, a community of “slushies”, being a silly play on the channel’s name.
Though what exactly differs them from simply any other channel trying to make it big?
That would be their content, as their videos burst with their odd yet clashing personalities. Some may find them bizarre, but their wacky style is not one to pass upon so quickly. Hamzah and Martin have mimicked the trend of satire comedy at levels that work and undeniably continue their growth as content creators. “I feel that they just turn on the camera and go with the flow and clip out and use what can be used–it’s what Youtubers should be doing, just going in front of the camera and speaking to your audience.” said Alliyah Mathurin, a fellow Slushy Noobz viewer among the JDHS student community,
Their wide-range of videos keep people entertained and wanting for more. Whether it’s gaming, mukbangs, 20 minute skits, or maybe just a camping vlog, they know how to engage with their viewers in a way that also sticks with the current fad.
With a very consistent upload schedule, their videos average to 300 thousand views and have begun to be clipped onto other platforms like Instagram and Tiktok, further increasing their reach to a larger audience.
Since the end of the 2010s decade, it’s been incredibly common for people to complain about the lack of entertaining videos and creators on Youtube, calling the current trends of video making practically soulless and uninteresting due to repetitiveness and lack of creativity. Slushy Noobz challenges these complaints through their creative thought process made possible by their team, which has been growing alongside the channel.
One of their most recent videos, “Hot ones” displays this creativity perfectly. A parody on Vogue’s 73 questions with a twist of “Hot Ones” as Hamzah and Martin interview one another and end it off with “answering the web’s most searched questions”.
It would be quite accurate to say that Slushy Noobz is on track to bringing back “OG Youtube”, given the several influences in their videos from past iconic creators such as Smosh, Pewdiepie, and even Fred. “They’re mainly replicating the trends that existed back then, trends we’ve missed from when we were younger like the Episode gameplays.” Alliyah Mathurin shared.
