In a very interesting move that sent confusion throughout the NBA, Chris Paul’s farewell tour has come to an unexpected and unfinished end, as the team has waived the soon to be Hall of Famer. Chris Paul now faces an uncertain future without the ability to close out his career in the city he helped elevate.
Many basketball fans, including those in the school community, were surprised by the move. “Chris Paul is one of the smartest players to ever play the game,” Coach Sosa said. “Even if he’s not in his prime anymore, his leadership alone makes him important day in and day out which is heavily needed on every team. Waiving him like that was very surprising.” Coach Sosa, a longtime assistant basketball coach at the school said.
“Chris Paul changed the culture of the Clippers,” Mr. Henderson, an alumni and current substitute teacher said. Mr. Henderson also played on the boys basketball team when he was a student here. “Before him, they weren’t taken seriously. What he did for that franchise shouldn’t be forgotten, and it’s sad to see his time there end this way.”
Students echoed similar feelings. Dennis Grady, a senior and former member of the school’s basketball team, expressed disappointment. “I grew up watching Chris Paul on the Clippers,” Grady said. “It doesn’t feel right that he doesn’t get a proper farewell. I still think he can help a team trying to win a championship with his leadership and just him being a vet.”
Chris Paul’s waiving from the Clippers marks the unexpected end of what was supposed to be his farewell season with the team. After joining the franchise in 2011 and transforming the Clippers into contenders, Paul had hoped to finish his career in Los Angeles, a city where he had become a key player in the team’s rise from being a mid team to contenders year in and year out. The 2025–26 season was expected to be a celebration of his legacy, with farewell games across the league, but the Clippers’ decision to waive him leaves those plans up in the air. As one of the NBA’s most respected players, Paul’s future is now uncertain, and his exit raises questions about his next destination or if he will even return to the NBA and just call it quits.
Paul is widely known as one of the greatest point guards in NBA history and played a major role in shaping the Clippers image during the “Lob City” era. His leadership, basketball IQ, and competitiveness helped make the Clippers a consistent playoff team and a serious threat in the Western Conference. Even though they never were really that close to a championship the fun and exciting team became a must watch every time they played with all their flashy dunks, lobs and perfect handles.
The Clippers’ decision is believed to be motivated by salary flexibility and a focus on younger players, but the move still raises questions about how teams treat veteran stars near the end of their careers. Whether Paul signs with another team, retires, or takes on a different role in basketball remains unknown.
